History - Mimoň

In the 13th century, due to the significant mercantile activities, a customs country town began to evolve. Authorization of the customs laws for then the owners Jan and Václav of Vartemberk by Charles IV in 1371 meant a development of commerce and contribution to the town’s Treasury and to the owners of the estate. Mimoň had been introduced as the city as early as 1505. The large development of the city was noted after 1651 when the estate had been sold to Jan Putz of Adlersthurn. To the order of their father, the sons let the Chapel of God’s Grave, brewery, hospital and the City Hall to be built, and the manor house and parish church to be rebuilt. Three municipal territories had formed the city at that time: the actual Mimoň, the Okrouhlá village and the Šibeničná village. In 1681, all districts had been united and the Town Council assembly was appointed. The Hartigs had been the last owners of the Mimoň estate lasting until 1945. Nowadays the city is populated by almost 7,000 inhabitants.

Culture - Mimoň

A cultural life in the city is organized by the Cultural and Information Center located in the City Library building. The Ralsko Civic Center serves as the main cultural spot in the city. The Sister Cities are Zlotoryja in Poland and Oelsnitz in Germany.

Sport - Mimoň

Several sporting clubs manage the activities in the city. From the active-leisure viewpoint, the visitors can walk into the spacious manor house park, visit the fitness center and swimming pool, or alternatively use the broad opportunities provided by surroundings to the tourists and bicycle tourists.

Tours - Mimoň

Doksy with the “Máchovo jezero” (Mácha’s Lake) and the Lusatian Mountains are the nearest recreational areas. Mimoň is largely surrounded by the area of former Ralsko military zone with quite ample forests, especially the pinewoods. The area is known as a famous mushroom-picking paradise. After closing down the military zone, this territory became the area providing a number of opportunities for tourism thanks to its extensive wealth of natural beauty. Many marked bicycle routes come through here. The former military airport is now utilized for landing the ultra light airplanes and rogallo wings.
