History - Osečná - Lázně Kundratice
The village was probably founded in the first half of the 13th century on a municipal commercial road between Český Dub and the Děvín Castle. Historically, Osečná had been mostly occupied by the German population, who made living predominantly by agriculture activities. From historical roots, we possess knowledge about an unsuccessful uprising against compulsory labor, but also about a fast recovery of the village after the Thirty Years’ War. Because Osečná is located aside from main routes, it has never gained a special significance. The first road had been created as late as in 1853 – 1855, Post Office in 1853 – 1855, the telegraph in 1895, and the telephone set in 1922. Today, the village is a newly rediscovered vacationland with the high potential.
Foundation of Lázně Kundratice by a local businessman Josef Schwan in 1881 was certainly the most significant event from the today’s viewpoint. The health resort, which belongs among the oldest ones in Bohemia, is using a fen as the natural healing resource. The health resort hospital was bought by the village in 1908 from the Schwan’s widow. Because a number of visitors had been continuously growing, it was decided for an entire facility renovation in 1913. The spa buildings had acquired a new look, and in 1914, the sanatorium designated for patients was built, serving also the convalescents, especially the World War I soldiers. In 1933, the health resort used to be considered as one of the most modern in our Republic. During the World War II, the sanatorium had been again serving the army needs. After the World War II, Lázně Kundratice became the part of state-owned enterprise called the Czechoslovak State Health Resort, the health resort sanatorium was privatized in 1992 and thus the Lázně Kundratice a.s. stock company was created.
