Semily
The town of Semily is located at the foothills of western “Krkonoše” (Giant Mountains) and “Jizerské hory” (Jizera Mountains), near the junction of Jizera and Oleška Rivers, at the bottom of the legendary Kozákov Mountain. Semily is a natural center of the “Horní Pojizeří” area (Upper Jizera Mountains), at which “Podkrkonošská pahorkatina” (Highlands of Giant Mountains) and the region of Český ráj (Czech Paradise) meet. Kozákov Mountain, an ancient volcano
and traditional collecting locality of gemstones, looms above the countryside. During propitious weather, almost a quarter of Bohemia can be observed from the lookout tower located on its summit. A unique Jizera river canyon with a Rieger tourist trail and Bozkov dolomite cavern with an underground lake are located near the town. A motto „The Land of Faraway Views and Deep Valleys “ fairly describes the countryside of Upper Jizera Mountains. The region is perfect for hiking, cycletouring, and for an active vacation with family and friends.
