Český Šternberk Castle
Český Šternberk Castle
Český Šternberk Castle, set on a massive rocky cliff of the Sázava River valley is one of the oldest castles in Bohemia, built in 1241 by Zdeslav of Divišov. The name "Šternberk" (star castle) is derived from the star in the coat-of-arms of the noble owners. The Early Gothic medieval castle underwent a series of changes, from the Late Gothic reconstruction work improving the fortifications, through to the extravagant Early Baroque remodeling of the interiors converting it into a comfortable residency. The Český Šternberk Castle belongs now to a descendant of the man who first had it built, Zdeslav of Šternberg.
