Jemniště Chateau
Jemniště Chateau
The first news of Jemniště dates back to the year 1381 when it used to be a fortress surrounded by a moat. At that time the owner of the manor was Beneš of Cimburk. In 1717 the manor was bought by Count Frances Adam of Trauttmansdorff, originally from an old Styrian family. The Château in the village did not suit his tastes and demands. That is why around 1724, he had a new château built on a nearby knoll. The construction was completed in 1725. In 1754 the Château burnt down, only St. Joseph’s Chapel remained intact. The entire Château was rebuilt and newly furnished, thus representing a typical aristocratic seat at the peak of the Baroque period. At the turn of the 18th, the Baroque garden adjacent to the Château was changed into a romantic English park. Today the Château is the property of the Šternberk family, the former owners.
