Kutná Hora - Historic Centre
The history of Kutná Hora goes hand in hand with silver mining and processing. In the second half of the 13th century, the original mining settlement, located over the Vrchlice River, turned quickly into a royal town, competing with Prague in all significant aspects. Today the town is not as important as it was in the late 16th century, nevertheless, it offers over 300 protected monuments of medieval and Baroque architecture. In December 1995 the historic centre, the Cathedral of St. Barbora and the Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady in Sedlec were listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
