Okoř
Okoř
The ruin of the castle Okoř is situated in the region Prague - west, about 4 kilometers north from the city Buštěhrad. It was founded probably in the 13th century. Its todays look comes from the reconstruction which was in about 1359 made on the order of its then owner - František Rokycanský. After that the castle went through many reconstructions. An important part of the castle defensive system was a pond which was surrounding the castle from three sides. The castle was damaged during the Thirty-years war. In that time the castle had a new owner - the Jesuits - but after abolition of their order, they left the castle and the castle soon turned into a ruin. In the beginning of the 20th century the state took care of the ruin. The dominant of the ruin is in the eastern part a torzo of a high prismatic tower with rests of an early Gothic chapel in the basement. Swordsman performances are often held here. The castle is surrounded with beautiful country.
