Olomouc - Recreation
Olomouc
Due to its rich history, ancient university, cultural and craftwork traditions and central position in Moravia, Olomouc has long been an attractive place for tourists, traders and entrepreneurs. With a population of 102 thousand residents, it is one of the most significant centres in the Czech Republic. In 1971 Olomouc was declared a town monument reservation.
History - Olomouc
The origins of Olomouc date back to the year 1017. Moravia was attached to the Bohemian Přemyslide state; the Bohemian Přemyslides had extricated the area from the subjection of Boleslav Chrabý. In 1182 the whole of Moravia was united as the Margraviate, in the mid-13th century the town was surrounded by ramparts and officially declared as founded. After the Hussite Wars the town took a long time to recover.
In 1566 Jesuits came to Olomouc, in 1573 they turned the established grammar school into a university. In 1642 the town was occupied for 8 years by the Swedes. At the start of the 18th century building work started to be carried out once again, the baroque pillar bears witness to the religious feeling then manifest in this episcopal town. It combines within itself both religious triumphalism and a belief in the formation of architecture-art. The acceptance of the baroque pillar Nejsvětějí Trojice (Holy Trinity) amongst the monuments of the UNESCO cultural heritage in the year 2000 gave Olomouc international recognition.
Culture - Olomouc
Patrons of the arts are familiar with Moravská Filharmonie (the Moravian Philharmonic), Divadlo Hudby (Theatre of Music) and Moravské divadlo (Moravian Theatre). There are also nearly 20 galleries and museums to provide further cultural experiences. Those interested in plants know the Flora Olomouc exhibition, and should seek out the Bílá Lhota arboretum, where there are over 400 species, kinds and varieties of evergreen and deciduous trees. The arboretum is an institution of the Vlastivědné Museum.
Sport - Olomouc
Olomouc and its surroundings offer a large number of possibilities for walking, cycling and driving around. We recommend the track along Bystřice Hanácká on Svatý Kopeček for a less demanding walk, or CHKO Litovelské Pomoraví and Příkaz for a more demanding bike ride. Drives to the castles of ternberk, Slovinec, Nouzov and Helftýn make for some nice trips. Agrotourism is also being developed in the area.))))
Tours - Olomouc
Today Olomouc is the second largest monument reservation after Prague, and undoubtedly deserves the attention of visitors. The most significant religious building is Chrám sv. Václava (the Shrine of St. Wenceslas). Other significant buildings are Přemyslovský Palác, (Přemyslide Palace), Hradisko (the biggest Premonstratensian monastery in Europe) and the walled Kostel sv. Mořice (Church of St. Morris), with its famous organs. A Madonna dating from the year 1483, one of the most valuable Gothic statues in the Czech Republic, can be found in the small chapel on the Náměstí sv. Václava (Square of St. Wenceslas). Neither can we forget about the radnice (town hall), which along with the pillar Nejsvětějí Trojice (Holy Trinity) forms the most distinctive dominant feature of the Olomouc main square. Whoever visits Olomouc at some time must stop at the Chrám Navtívení Panny Marie on Svatý Kopeček, which is the most important and most frequently visited place of pilgrimage in the Czech Republic.

Olomouc je výjimečná. Spousta unikátních panátek, a přitom je možné prohlédnout během relativně krátkého času, protože jsou hezky pohromadě.
