Castle Šternberk
The castle Šternberk is an important dominant of a village of the same name, situated on the border of Nízký Jeseník. It was founded in the 13th century by the family of Šternberks. One of the oldest preserved parts of the castle is the fortification of the main palace and a cylindrical tower with 4 meters thick walls. In the second half of the 14th century Albert from Šternberk begun with reconstruction of the castle. Since that time there is a chapel with rests of paintings from life of Virgin Mary and a portal. During its existence the castle was partly damaged many times, mainly during the Hussite wars and a big fire in 1538. Then it was reconstructed and rebuilt in Renaissance style. Later it was also damaged during the Thirty-years war and the latest reconstruction took place after World War II. Right now the castle is full of expositions of lifestyle and art from Gothic to Baroque style.
