Castle Přerov

Castle Přerov

The town Přerov is an important rail junction and it has formed the etrance to the Moravian gateway (Moravská brána) for centuries. At the place of a former site of a settlement was in the second half of the 13th century built a castle with a big round tower. In the 90s of the 15th century it was rebuilt to a late Gothic castle and in the end of the 16th century it was modified to a Renaissance castle. In 1918 the castle was sold by its last owners (Magnisové) to the town. Then it served only as a place for offices, clerical apartments and as a school. In years 1928-1930 the whole castle was repaired and it became a place for collections of the City Museum and the Komenský Museum. Visitors can admire many great historical collections - etnomological, mineralogical and ethnical. The castle is opened for public.
