Castle Choltice
Castle Choltice
The castle is situated 7 kilometers from Přelouč. At the place of a former Gothic fortress there used to be a Renaissance castle from the 16th century which was destroyed. In 1695 it was replaced by a Baroque building. One of the most important parts of the castle is an early Baroque chapel of St. Romedius with a unique stucco decoration by A. Nuvolaný. In the dome of the chapel you can see sixteen paintings with scenes from life of St. Romedius. The chapel decoration is preserved in its original look until these days, the decoration comes from the 17th century. The castle is the seat of the Museum of homeland studies, its collections include primeval findings, music instruments or a Baroque drug-store. One of the famous natives from Choltice is painter J. V. Hellich or poet B. Jelínek. Another part of the castle is also a park and a yard.
