Castle Pardubice

Castle Pardubice

In the city of gingerbread and horse races there is also a beautiful castle. The castle was built at a place of a former fortress from the 13th century. In the 15th and 16th century the castle was reconstructed first in Gothic style and then in Renaissance style by the Lords from Pernštejn. In the 70s of the 16th century, during the reign of Rudolf II., the castle was reconstructed for the last time and the reconstruction was based on a desing of architect Oldřich Avoslalis. In the castle there is East-Bohemian musem with a permanent exposition of weapons, postcards and a huge collection of Czech glass. The Renaissance halls with unique wall paintings are also worth seeing. The fortification is also original.
