Plešné lake
The Plešné lake is located about 8 kilometres west from the water basin Lipno, on the north-east downhill of the mountain Plechý (1378,3 metres above the sea level). The altitude of the lake - 1,089 metres above the sea level - surely contributes to the fact, that this locality has got extreme weather conditions. The average temperature is about 3 centigrades and the annual rainfall is about 1500 mm. In the winter there can be over 2,5 metres of snow. The lake is one of the five lakes in the Czech part of Šumava. It is of glacial origin, about 18 metres deep and its sheet is 7,5 hectares. Water from the lake runs away by Jezerní stream to the water basin Lipno. Since 1791 was water from the lake used for water supplying of Schwarzenberg floating channel. Thanks to its location under a 260 metres high cliff of the mountain Plechý it is also used as a place for relaxation. About 200 metres away from the dike of the lake there is "kamenné moře" ("stone sea") which intensifies the impression of this wonderful scenery. On the way from the lake to the mountain Plechý there is a memorial to the writer Adalbert Stifter with an observatory. You can get to the lake by touristic paths from Nová Pec (about 11 kilometres) or following the green path from the village Jelení (about 7 kilometres).
