Castle Ploskovice
Castle Ploskovice
Not far from Litoměřice, there is a Baroque castle. It was built between years 1545-75 at a place of a former fortress. Between 1720 and 1725 it was rebuilt into a more representative Baroque seat. The building was designed by architect Octavius Broggius. Since 1805 the seat was owned by the Habsburks who adjusted the castle into a summer seat for the Austrian caesar Ferdinand I. Habsburk. Since 1918 the castle is a property of the state and it also served as a summer seat for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Edvard Beneš stayed here with his wife very often. On the castle ground floor you can see the grotta - an artificial cave with shell fountains and statues. The interior decoration is also very interesting, the ceiling paintings were made by J. Navrátil, the statues are from V. Levý and the fresco paintings in the dome of the representative hall are from V. Reiner. One part of the object is also a Baroque garden which is divided into two parts and there are also small pools and a little pond. The castle is opened for public.
