Castle Velké Březno
Castle Velké Březno
The state castle Velké Březno is situated to the east from Ústí nad Labem. It is one of the youngest castles in the Czech Republic. It was built between years 1842 and 1854 by Karel Chotek from Chotkov and Vojnín, the chief burgrave of the Czech kingdom. The castle was built according to a plan of a Viennese architect Foerster. The original castle looked a little bit different than the castle looks today, it was much more simple. The original empire castle (or a villa) was totally rebuilt between years 1885 and 1910 into a neo-Renaissance castle, based on the plans by a dresden architect Fleischer. The castle of Velké Březno is a smaller nobility seat and also one of the last feudal buildings in the Czech Republic. The interiors are originally furnished. An interesting place is the dining room with rich neo-Renaissance decoration and a mirror room with a fireplace and stucco decoration. One part of the castle areal is also a very precious natural park. Besides all this, for example the composer Franz List lived here, he was a friend of the family of Chotkové. The castle is opened for public.
