ZOO in Zlín
ZOO in Zlín
ZOO was officially opened to public back in 1948. Recent ZOO has almost 42 hectares of exposition areas and keeps about 200 species of animals. Many of them are very rare or remarkable in other way. The ZOO in Zlin is one of the two ZOOs in the Czech Republic keeping gorillas and Arabian oryxes, and the only one keeping spider monkeys. Other interesting mammals are giraffes, rhinos, seals, addaxes, sloths, lemurs, maned wolfs, gibbons and siamangs. After a few decades it keeps elephants again, who have found their home in a new pavilion. An insular walk through exhibit of lemurs catta grew out in their neighbourhood. Among the most interesting birds are the runners from all over the world (represented by ostriches, cassowaries, emus and nandus), penguins, cranes, hornbills, ibises and parrots. In the Asian region, you can see the comlex of modern natural outlets for tigers and bears, followed by a large walk through birds exhibit. In the Australian region, you can walk through a nonsuch exhibit - a habitat of kangaroos and emus, which is unique in Europe. In the chateau basement you will find vivaria with reptiles. Newly opened exhibit of Amazonia became a home for macaws, squirrel monkeys and others.
