Mácha’s region, and today it more or less follows the contours of the former County of Česká Lípa. The most important town of the region is Česká Lípa. In addition to the nice downtown, you can find here the developed services and an abundance of accommodation capacities. A short stretch behind the city, a beautiful valley with sandstone rocks can be found, it is the National Nature Monument called "Peklo" (the Hell). The town of glassmaking tradition called Nový Bor is located in thenorth direction of the city, as well as the very popular recreational center called Sloup v Čechách can be found here, which is primarily known for its rock castle. The town of Zákupy is located about 8 km to the east direction of Česká Lípa; it features a manor with a very beautiful manor park and rare woody plants and a swimming pool with a chute-the-chute water slide. The neighboring town of Mimoň with the Chapel of Boží hrob is a gateway into the wide-stretching forests of theformer military zone located below the hill of Ralsko. A ruin of the same name is located on the hilltop. Behind Mimoň, near the village of Noviny pod Ralskem, you can find the Ploučnice Ravine, the former underground headrace embedded in the rock. The town of Stráž pod Ralskem, a former uranium mining industry center, is located just a few kilometers away. Today, it is again becoming a tourist region as it used to be before the uranium mining started. The lakes between the town of Strážand the town of Hamr na Jezeře are the popular summer resorts today featuring the expanding services. The town of Doksy is located on the banks of the well-known Mácha Lake, out of which you can see the landmark of the entire region, the state castle of Bezděz. There is a Memorial of Karel Hynek Mácha over here. Only a few kilometers away, the Houska castle and the Kokořín region gateway, the town of Dubá, separate us from the mountain towns and wooded valleys of the Kokořín region. Wewill leave the Mácha’s region with the city of Benešov nad Ploučnicí, which has a castle, the town of Žandov, and the town of Kravaře, which has an outdoor museum called Vísecká rychta and the ruin of the Ronov castle in an altitude of 552 meters ASL. .
The first typical symbol of historic cities from the region of Bohemian Highlands is the town of Úštek. A historic center of the town had been a reason for pronouncing it the urban conservation area. The recreationalreservoir of Chmelař is located on the outskirts, and the ruin of the gothic rock castle of Helfenburk behind the town. One of the most beautiful Czech cities, Litoměřice, is located about 15 km in the southwest direction of Úštěk. This historic royal town and episcopal seat is full of historical sights. We will find the industrial city of Lovosice in vicinage of Litoměřice, as well as the historic town of Terezín, the original citadel, which is the architectural reserve today. The Nazis built the concentration camp in the part of the bulwark during the World War II. There is a world-known Nazi victimsmemorial over there – the national cultural monument called Terezín Memorial Building. Also the town of Roudnice nad Labem is located in this area next to the town of Štětí. The historic and picturesque townlet will instantly offer us several rare monuments and interesting sights. At first, we will highlight the premises of the baroque Lobkovic manor, which has the manor house riding hall accessible to the public. The painting galleries of the Czech painters of the 19th and 20th centuriesare located inside, e.g. the paintings from Filla, Slavíček, Holan, Zrzavý, Špála, etc. There is also a stone lookout tower called Hláska, a concrete lookout tower called Kratochvílova, an Augustinian cloister, and several preserved buildings of the original Jewish ghetto. In the southwest direction, we can find the town of Budyně nad Ohří featuring a castle with the Museum of Alchemy. Another stop is the town of Libochovice that features valuable collections inside the renaissance manor, where a renowned Czech physician and biologist called J. E. Purkyně was born. In the northwest direction of Libochovice in the direction of the town of Třebenice, a ruin of the Házmburk (Klapý) castle is located, which offers an incredible view of the landscape.Another monument is waiting for us in the village of Peruc. The Museum of Czech Village has been opened inside a local manor. In the historical town of Louny, in addition to the local museum, we can also find the museum called "Muzeum Zkamenělý les" (Petrified Forrest Museum) in the citadel tower. The museum features a permanent exhibition of the petrified trees, which had been growing here 20 – 280 million years ago. A dominant feature of the town is the Cathedral of St. Mikuláš. Touristservices are expanding here very promisingly. The bicycle-tourist and walking routes, and the trip hints will certainly help you to rediscover this beautiful region. The archeological outdoor museum with an exhibition of life of our ancestors is located in the town of Březno u Loun. Another splendid town is located between the towns of Postoloprty and Podbořany. It is the royal town of Žatec, which is the urban conservation area today. Thanks to its location, the Žatec had become a center ofthe entire agricultural region. It is primarily known for the production of hops, which is a fundamental raw material for a production of the fabulous Czech beer. The Nechranická dam is located in the west direction of Žatec. It features small sandy or pebbled beaches. You can practice various water sports in here, for example windsurfing, yachting, jet skiing and fishing. The surrounding countryside is suitable for bicycle tourism. Our last reminder is devoted to the beautiful baroque manornear Podbořany called Krásný Dvůr. Within the concept of the beautiful natural environment and the spacious manor park, we can see many features similar to the French Versailles. .
