Mountains below the highest peak of the Giant Mountains Piedmont called Zvičina (671 meters ASL), amidst the cities of Nová Paka, Hořice and Dvůr Králové nad Labem. In addition to the picturesque nature of this region, we can find a number of interesting sights and historical monuments in here, for example the Safari Park in Dvůr Králové nad Labem or the nearby dam called "Les království" (the Forest of Kingdom). It is just a few kilometers away to a unique baroque compound calledHospitál Kuks. A nature gallery of the Braun’s sculptures is called Betlém and it is located just a walking distance away. We can taste the local beer in Nová Paka, we can find a museum here with the Treasure House of Gemstones, and about 6 km further away we can visit the Pecka castle. Very well known are the Annenské Mud Baths in the city of Lázně Bělohrad, or the Hořice pastry product called the Hořice Tubes. The region has a quite thick network of the marked tourist routes forhiking and even for bicycle touring. .
The Hradec Králové region is a territory adjacent to Podzvičinsko. As we can already tell by its name, it is the territory around the city of Hradec Králové, which includes the following towns: Nový Bydžov, Chlumec nad Cidlinou, Třebechovice pod Orebem, Nechanice, and Smiřice. The flat landscape area in the Polabian Lowland is a much sought after bicycling location. The flat terrain is also suitable for family tours or for the seniorcitizen tours. Hradec Králové is the urban conservation area. Out of the tourist attractions, we should mention for instance the Giant Aquarium or the Aqua Center. The Museum of Nativity Scenes is located in the town of Třebechovice pod Orebem and the unique mechanical Crèche of Probošt is its most recognized exhibit. Historical and cultural monuments of the region are represented by the manor of Hrádek u Nechanic, the manor of Karlova Koruna by Chlumec nad Cidlinou, and the baroque Churchof Zjevení Páně in Smiřice. The Memorial of Battle by Chlum from the time of the Prussian-Austrian Wars and the Memorial of Farmers' Revolt by Chlumec nad Cidlinou are reminders of the tragic events. .
The Pardubice region is another district located in the Polabian Lowland, and its tourist orientation has been set according to this location. A natural center of the region with advanced services is the city of Pardubice, the County Capital at the junction of the Labe and Chrudimkarivers, known as the town of gingerbread and horse races. Aside from the medieval downtown we can also visit a local manor. In addition to the fertile plain, the region’s character is set by a large number of fishponds. An opportune terrain has become a base for the network of the marked bicycle tracks of the quite frequent occurrence. Important towns of the region are Lázně Bohdaneč, Přelouč, Holice, and Chvaletice. A famous horse-breeding farm in Kladruby nad Labem is located nearPřelouč. It offers excursions for the horsemen, as well as an option of learning the horseback riding or riding the horse drawn coach. Approximately 7 km in the north direction of Pardubice, the castle of Kunětická hora is located, which is a dominant feature of the entire area. The Museum of Gingerbread is located over there, too. An area between the towns of Chrudim and Hlinsko is mostly covered by the Protected Landscape Area of Železné hory. The lowland is changing into the upland near Chrudim and the beautiful area of the romantic and untouched nature is beginning here. Even here we can find a highly branched network of the hiking and bicycle routes. In addition, the more mountainous terrain offers an abundance of opportunities for winter sports here. The royal dower town of Chrudim is proud of having oneof the biggest and the top-quality urban conservation zone in the Eastern Bohemia. It has earned an attribute of "Athens of Eastern Bohemia". In addition to a number of monuments, the town has a famous puppeteers’ tradition, which you can get familiar with in the local museum. The town of Slatiňany is located just about 3 km in the south direction of Chrudim. The Museum of the Horse is featured in a local manor and it documents a development of the horse from its inception until today. Acuriosity is the children’s Kočičí hrádek. Approximately 10 km in the west direction of Chrudim, the town of Heřmanův Městec is located, which is mostly known for its center of the Jewish monuments. A ruin of the Lichnice castle is located next to the towns of Ronov nad Doubravou and Třemošnice. The famous recreation area is located around the water reservoir of Seč approximately 8 km in the southeast direction of Třemošnice. The other towns in the region are Hrochův Týnec,Chrast that features the manor with museum exhibitions, and Skuteč, a vicinity of which features the several interesting sights. Other sights are the Košumberk castle, the Nové Hrady manor, and the Rychmburk castle, which is not fully accessible because it serves as a retirement house, however, using the telephone line, it is possible to schedule an access to the lookout tower that features nice views. We will end our excursion in the Svitavy region, in a slightly undulated upland countryside, in the region that is quite sparsely occupied and that features an untouched nature with historic towns. The first stop will be the town of Vysoké Mýto featuring a very beautiful historic downtown and the Church of St. Vavřinec. It is about the 12 km distance from Vysoké Mýto to the town of Litomyšl. Arenaissance manor in Litomyšl is on the list of UNESCO monuments. Litomyšl is a birthplace of a music composer called Bedřich Smetana. Another stop could be town of Svitavy, which is a natural regional center of this area. An interesting experience could be a visit to the town museum. The city of Moravská Třebová, which is the urban conservation area, is located approximately 15 km to the east direction of Svitavy. In the local manor, in addition to various interesting features, we canfind an exhibition of artworks from Netherlands painters of the 17th and 18th centuries. The collection comes from the National Gallery in Praha. A museum of narrow-gauge railroad serves as a technical monument near the town of Mladějov in the northwest direction of Moravská Třebová. The historical town of Polička is located in the southern part and it features the preserved remains of fortifications. Polička a birthplace of yet another musical genius, a composer called Bohuslav Martinů.A rock formation called Toulovcovy maštale is located at the region’s border in the northeast direction of Polička, and the well-known castle of Svojanov is located not too far from the town of Bystrá.
A relatively spacious region of the Eastern Bohemia actually offers various opportunities to experience the new sights and to get an active rest. It can pleasantly surprise you and it absolutely undeservedly appears to be one of the less-visited destinations.
