Even though Praha does not
really belong to this region, we must at least mention it while describing the Central Bohemia. It is a point, which in many cases serves as an initial place for visiting the entire region, and it significantly affects the region from the cultural and economy viewpoint. We will however begin the tour in the north. The first city we will visit is Mělník. It is a city on the junction of the two largest Czech rivers Labe and Vltava. It mainly had become famous by production of grapevine. Touristshave an opportunity to admire the local manor, to visit the nearby nature reserve area of Kokořín region, to participate on boat trips by steamboat, or to visit the Kokořín castle, the Veltrusy manor or the Nelahozeves manor. The city of Mladá Boleslav is located approximately 35 km to the east from Mělník. It had become famous thanks to a tradition of automobile production of Škoda brand, the history of which can be remembered by visiting the Škoda Museum. There is also a manor and atemple. The Mladá Boleslav region is a home to the beautiful Mnichovo Hradiště manor, the Benátky nad Jizerou manor with the Museum of Toys, and the County reaches the borders of the Český ráj nature reserve area, which has the ruin of the Valečov castle and the Drábské světničky rock formation. From Mladá Boleslav, it is not too far to the city of Nymburk and to the historic spa town of Poděbrady, where you can visit the spa and the renaissance manor. Another important city with ahistoric center is Kolín, which features the Cathedral of St. Bartoloměj. Kutná Hora is one of the most beautiful Czech cities and it is located approximately 12 km from Kolín. Kutná Hora is on the list of UNESCO monuments of cultural heritage. You should not miss the Cathedral of St. Barbora and Vlašský Court, the Czech Museum of Silver, or the Museum of Alchemy in Kutná Hora – the first museum devoted to the alchemy worldwide. The Museum of Czech Rural Area – the Kačina manor byKutná Hora – belongs to the interesting cultural commemorations. The former County Capital of Benešov is located within a number of fabulous monuments. The first of those is the Konopiště manor and the other ones immediately follow: the Jemniště manor, Český Šternberk castle, Vrchotovy Janovice manor, Sázava cloister, Vlašim manor, Růžkovy Lhotce manor, and the many others. Another stop is Příbram, an ancient royal upper town, above which the baroque national cultural monumentof Svatá hora is located. In Příbram, there is also the largest mining museum in the Czech Republic with the 35 permanent exhibitions. The Březnice manor is located not faraway from Příbram. Another regional center is the town of Beroun. The historic center of the town is complemented by interesting sights in the vicinity, among which the Karlštejn belongs at the first place, then the Koněprupy caverns, the Točník castle with the nearby Žebrák ruin, or the manor in Hořovice. FromBeroun, we can get to the Křivoklát castle, which is located in the center of the Křivoklát nature reserve area, and which belongs to the region of which the town of Rakovník is the center. In the Rakovník region we can also visit the presidential manor of Lány with a beautiful publicly accessible manor park. We will end the region tour by visiting the city of Kladno. Absolutely worth visiting is the manor that is a home for the City Manor Gallery, the Sládeček Museum of Local Historyand Art in Kladno, and the branch office of the Kladno City Library. A reconstructed manor garden with the "medvědárium" (the bear city) is adjacent to the object. The Mayrau Outdoor Museum of Mining in Vinařice is located near the city of Kladno, as well as the memorial of the World War II tragic events in Lidice.
Entire region landscape is very diverse, the fact which allows development of all types of sports and recreational activities. Interested individuals can practice water sports atthe Vltava dams and on the Labe river, too. The water sportsmen know the rivers of Berounka and Sázava very well. Even anglers will get busy in the Central Bohemia. We can find here a number of excellent golf courses, riding halls, a network of marked tourist and bicycle tourist routes, and even an abundance of offers of the various nontraditional activities to spend the leisure time. Cultural life and entertainment options can be combined with an active movement in nature, or you can justrelax and enjoy silence in one of the more quiet areas, for example in the rented cottage house.
