The region has been populated since the ancient times. Among the important urban centers indisputably belongs the city of Uherské Hradiště. The historic town was founded by the king Přemysl Otakar II as earlyas in 1257 as a defense fortification against the Hungarians. It is located near the important place of pilgrimage called Velehrad. The second important center of the region is Hodonín, which is located on the border of the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic within the fertile lowland featuring vineyards, alluvial forests, and the acres of fertile fields. An enjoyable ambiance is complemented by the wine cellars and by the unmistakable local dialect. The first notes about the ancient townof Hodonín originate as early as in 1196. Hodonín is a birthplace of the first Czechoslovak president Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. .

The region is interwoven by a network of the Moravian wine routes. You can practice hiking, bicycling or horse riding within the entire area. We recommend a unique combination of the water route and the bicycle roads, which is the technical monument called Baťa’s canal. An original industrial arterial road has been changed to the tourist water routefeaturing a number of ports.
