Ochtinská Aragonite Cave
The cave was formed by corrosive activities of rainfall waters on the crystalline limestones of the Palaeozoic Era, more than 400 milion years old. It was discovered by chance in 1954 and was made accessible in 1972. The rich aragonite fills of various forms are of world significance. Aragonite is formed from rain water with high content of magnesium, manganese and iron. The total length of the cave is 300 m, air temperature around 7ºC. Inscribed on UNESCO´s World Heritage List in 1995.
