Holly Ghost Church in Žehra

Holly Ghost Church in Žehra

An ancient Roman-Gothic church built of rare Spiš travertine stone (limestone). The building was completed in 1275. The Church treasures unique, well-preserved Gothic fresco-paintings created in different time periods, from the 13th to the 15th century. The rare Gothic sculptures originate from the 15th century and the stone baptistery from the 13th century. The Holly Ghost Curch has been protected as a national cultural monument and represents a part of the Spiš monuments complex that is on UNESCO´s Heritage List (1995).
